Mind Transfer at Will
If the structure of the mind links to architecture of a mind, so micro-structure and gross anatomy, then both the processing units and the geometry of a nervous system relate to the sense of a self and its sphere of both awareness and processing.
In principle, this should be capable of terminating the mind from the body, while reduce in its adaptivity because of the lack of live input from embodiment due to sensory input. When some science fiction enthusiasts speak about the transferability of consciousness, that seems plausible and likely if allowing leeway for fidelity.
In this sense, if consciousness is not a magical property, but a technical property evolved on a planet and developed in some species and in the process of growth of individual psychology, then there’s a means by which the universe without forethought creates it.
Furthermore, if the construction of this happens within the context of an intelligent enough species, then this could be deconstructed–de-evolved so to speak–and then reconstructed. The difficulty is construction in a separate substrate, but the principle of coupling a mind to information processing in an armature, certainly, helps.
Following from this idea, we could develop a context in which consciousness, rich information processing, could be transferred from device to device, copied, modified, and such. I could see a future of digital psychology where copied minds could be used to aggregate and understand psychology more.
Then there could be changes to this architecture to see the differences in output, and, thus, observe the ways in which individual personality traits can be changed, even reimagined with greater fidelity. Our categories of thought are heuristic, not the most accurate.
Future intelligences will develop an entirely independent structure of thought to understand minds and their parsings. The future of the imagined past is beginning now. These claims around transferable consciousness are entirely within the realm of possibility.
As with any technology, these things will develop terribly at first, for a bit, then and with a high functionality surpassing the most capable humans in those domains, as computers are superhuman compared to people in multiple domains now.
Humanity 2.0 will be a world with everything cleaned up, transferable consciousness, and new thought forms. Minds will transfer and move at will everywhere in virtual and physical space.
